Once the moniker became the preferred way of addressing this model in USA, the Rolex President models grown to be more popular and desired among watch collectors.

The exact origin of this American moniker is not know, but there are two explanations. Both of them are real just that no one knows which of them actually came first and had the most important contribution to the Rolex President name.

The first side of the story says that a gold-linked bracelet with a concealed clasp called “the President wristband,” was created exclusively for this model. Due to the huge success of this band, the watch became famous and took its name: Rolex President.

The second side is that Rolex offered a Day-Date to President Dwight Eisenhower. This fact was highly advertised and soon the model became the favored watch of the American presidents.

Several other U.S. Presidents, namely Franklin Delano Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, and Gerald Ford were also very fond of this model and used to wear it in public. Due to the repeated associations and exposures of the Rolex Day-Date with the image of the US presidents, it was named and referred to as the Rolex President.
